Commissioner Barry Orth has been in the fire service for over 45 years. He began his career as a firefighter in 1978 for Benton County Fire District #2. In 1985 he was a Firefighter EMT with Benton County Fire District #1 till 1988, where he moved to the Sunnyside Fire department while taking care of his mom due to the death of his father in a fire at the local propane company where he was the manager. From there in 1990 he transitioned to Benton County Fire District #4 and rose up the ranks from Firefighter EMT to Lieutenant Duty Chief to Captain. Commissioner Orth then returned to the Benton County Fire District #2 family in the year 1999, where he began again as a firefighter EMT, then moved to Lieutenant in 2001 and Captain in 2005. Barry left the Benton 2 family in 2008 but only for a short period until he became a Fire Commissioner in 2009, which is a position he still holds to this day.
